Thankful!
What a busy, busy week! Super Turkey, Pioneer Day, Campfire Stories... So MUCH fun!
There are so many blessings and so much to be thankful for. To top my list I am thankful for your kids (who I consider my kids!) I think the world of them!!! We made a class Thankful Quilt.
It was very heartfelt and very special to see all they treasure and are thankful for... Family, friends, teachers, God, Earth, sun and even pie! My daughter's good friend joined our class quilt along with my girl Macey. :)
So much to be thankful for. Thank you over and over for sharing your children with me. I love them as my own!
I hope you and your family have a relaxing and safe break!

Happy Veteran's Day!
I just love celebrating our Veterans!!!! I come from an Army family. My husband was Airborne in the Army. My brother was stationed in Germany, and my dad served and went to Vietnam. They all make me proud! I even wore my husband's shirt to school (a little big!)
The kids had a Mind Mission today in class. They were asked to fly a flag for the soldiers, but the flagpole was broken!
With straws, rubber bands, mailing labels and more they worked together to make flags.

What a fun week!
What a fun, fun week!!! This week in IC we have been learning all about careers. Our very own nurse Jen came and talked to the kids. They loved hearing all about staying healthy. We had Officer Tom come too. I think every hand in the audience was raised for both guest speakers!
The kids also made items in class which would help them in their future careers. We had "bad-guy catchers".

We had thermometers.
We had computers.
I was very impressed with the creativity!
Twitter Tuesday's Topic was: What does the word CREATIVITY mean to you?
Follow us on #Cubcnn for the answers to this question and more. :) Every Tuesday we have a question we present to the class, and we tweet their answers. It is read at CubCNN, our morning announcements.
Today was Pumpkin Math. Meet Tom. That was the name the kids voted on for our pumpkin. When the kids went to Art Tom lost his front tooth! They were so excited! The kids also voted on how they wanted Tom to look. Shapes of eyes, nose and mouth.
The kids counted the seeds in groups of 10. We had 588 seeds! We weighed Tom, found out if he would sink or float, counted his seams and found out it took 51 unification cubes to go around Tom. We had a blast! You can see more at #christielearns. We had a blast!
What a fun-filled week! :) I just love the kids so much!!!

After the assembly we had our first school-wide design challenge. The kids created bubble wands and their creative juices we flowing. It was so fun watching them create and build. Room Parent Needed
We are in need of a room parent. If you are interested please let me know I will forward your information to our fabulous coordinator (who just happens to be one of our very own! Thank you!!)
A room parent is in charge of planning and executing three class parties throughout the year. You will collaborate with other parents to plan these parties. The day of the party you will come early to prepare for the party, make sure it is a success and clean up. We appreciate your time and efforts making this a special day for the kids!
Again, if you are interested please let me know, and I will pass on your information.
Thank you!

Do You Know Your Address and Phone Number?
Driving to school when my son was in Pre-K I remember telling him Mommy's phone number. We repeated it a few times before I dropped him off. I was blown away when I picked him up from school, and he was still reciting my phone number!
This week in IC we are talking about diversity, in our school, neighborhood, and the world. Today's lesson was about the diversity of where people live. This lesson stressed the importance of knowing your address and parent(s) phone number(s). Please help your child learn these if they do not already know. We had a lot of proud kids today as they could recite addresses and phone numbers. I just savor those proud moments in the kids!

Sense of Wonder
I just saw this quote, and I love it! Wonder.... An inquisitive mind is one of perfection. I love watching all the "wonder" happen daily with our kids. It inspires me. It makes me want to be the best teacher I can be for the wondering minds who want to know... Who want to grow.. I love what I do!!

Reading Makes the Mind SHINE
Please make sure your child is reading at least 20 minutes a night. I check their Reading Minutes daily. If they bring in their signed reading log every day they earn a "Sweet Treat" at the end of the week! They also get to participate in Fun Friday which is extra recess for the students who read daily as well as finish all their stations throughout the week. If they do not finish their "must do" stations for that day you will see it come home with your child for homework.
Thank you for all you do to help them be successful! I love working with you for the success of your child. They mean the world to me!!!

Meet Mrs. Roberts
Thank you so much for sharing your children with me! I really enjoyed watching them unpack their "All About Me" bags. It has been a fantastic few weeks getting to know each other, as we become a school family. I love waking up each day knowing I get to see them!
I brought in some of my work too to share with them.
I also LOVED being on the soccer field. Playing soccer as a girl was the highlight for me. Now I love being the cheering mom on the sidelines watching my own children and my husband while he coaches them.
Today, many of my loves are the same. They also include...
Favorite food: Gummy Bears, red licorice and artichokes
Favorite color: Yellow
Favorite hobby: Reading, gardening and spending time with my family
Favorite drink: Coffee
Favorite store: Hobby Lobby - I love being crafty. My favorite thing to do is to turn trash to treasures! Garage sales, second hand stores, antiques. Love them all!
Favorite dessert: Anything sweet! I love sweets!! Cookies, candy, ice cream...
Thank you again for sharing your sweet children with me! I am so excited for the year ahead!

Carpool Changes
Carpool Changes
In an effort to better serve
our families, and increase the safety and speed of our dismissal… We are
implementing a new carpool system for grades K, 3, 4, and 5 in the front of the
building. First and second grade will stay the same in the south parking lot.
When you come to pick up your student(s) the teacher calling cars will say your
child’s name, and then Station 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. All six stations are south
of the crosswalk and will be clearly marked. Each station will have a teacher
ready to help your child into your vehicle. Today was the first day of trying
this system, and we were completely finished within 21 minutes. Yesterday’s
dismissal took a total of 26 minutes, so we are encouraged about today’s
results as a first try.
Kindergarten walkers will
still be picked up in the north parking lot. Second grade walkers will now be
picked up in the south parking lot.
Thank you so much for your
support as we continue to try and improve dismissal.

Shining Bright this 2014-2015 School Year
August 20, 2014
As I start out the new year I am beyond excited! Christie is where my own kids have called home for the past few years and now where I will also, not just as a parent but an educator. I have spent almost a decade in education with many different age groups around the district, but my heart lies with the Christie community. It is completely home for me. I am grateful and looking forward to the year ahead. I cannot wait to meet the kids who will call Rm B119B their home away from home, to build relationships with my students and their family and to watch them SHINE ON!
In our class we will...
Show respect.
Have a positive attitude.
I will work hard.
Never give up.
Everyone cooperates.
Safety counts.
These are the rules we will live by because we are a respectful community who works hard and never gives up, smiles, cares and loves all.
In our class We Can Do Hard Things. I believe in you, and you should too. I will never stop being your cheerleader, friend, mentor, supporter and heart. We will learn together, and I cannot wait!

I am looking so forward to the year ahead with you! It is going to be an amazing year, one of imagination, fun and one to SHINE ON!
