Turtle, Tortoise and Terrapin Time

Mrs. Nelson brought her turtles, tortoises and terrapins today! I took notes!!!  We were so excited.

Turtles are omnivores
Lay eggs on land
Shells

Tortoises live on land.

Turtles live in the water (fresh and salt).

Tortoises are land walkers.  They are FAST!!!

Pancake Tortoise... the kids giggled

Turtles can hide.  Tortoises cannot hide and pull all body parts in.

Tortoises will eat a cactus!!!!

They have no teeth but they crush their food. Even shells of snail.

Some will run and some will hide because they are scared -- OH-- Turtle tried to bite Mrs. Nelson

Pet Provide - food, water, exercise, sunlight...  When this turtle was little the owners didn't take care of him. His shell is now deformed and therefore he is not protected.

"That's sad!"

"They could have gone on-line to learn how to take care of him"

Baby - 3 toes - shell scales on the shell called are called scoots.  Every turtle has13 scoots. They can pull all body parts inside the shell.

What have you learned today????

Outdoor Learning Center

Our field trip to the Outdoor Learning Center was an absolute SUCCESS!  It couldn't have been a more beautiful day.  The kid's smiles and laughter were the proof in the success of our day.
We learned so much!  We learned all about food chains and soil.  We went on a nature hike in the forest.  We got to pet Murray, the lazy yet friendly ferret.  We got to see too many animals to name.  It was awesome!

Thank you to the staff of the Outdoor Learning Center who made the day so wonderful for our kids.

"It Was the Best Day of My Life"

My darling Mimi Roberts came for the day!  She came with all the other Abulitas, Nanas, and Grandmas to substitute in First Grade!!!  The kids said it was the best day ever!!!
They had a scavenger hunt with Hershey Kisses.
They created their 100 year old self. They had a parade around the school too.

I wish I could have been there to share all the fun!  The kids want her to visit everyday!!!!

I love my sweet Mimi!  She was so good to the kids!
